OK so i want to become a police officer and if I could have some one tell me if I am on the right track and answer some additional questions that would be very help full. I am currently in high school in Colorado and later I want to move to Anchorage Alaska to become a police officer there. So after high school I was planning on joining the military and then using the G.I. bill to pay for college after. 1. I was thinking of joining the Military Police but from what I have read on the internet it sounds like its a joke for police officer applications, So what military position should i go for? 2. What should i major in in college? I was thinking criminal justice but i read that a criminal justice degree is just to common. Will this hold me back? I use to smoke pot regularly abused Adderall 3 times, did Mushrooms and Ecstasy once. I was never convicted or arrested for anything. I know it sounds very bad but I quit everything about a year ago and realized i was just young and being stupid. I know i have to get a security clearance and they will ask about all this i was planning on being completely honest. 3. So when they do ask about these drugs how much do you think it will hold me back? and if i am more qualified then other applicants (degree +military) but they haven't done all these drugs do you think they would pick the other applicants over me? 4.On some applications it asks how many times you have smoked pot....If it use to be a regular thing for a while what should i put? 5. Also i know police officers have to write lots of reports, and i am not very good with spelling, my handwriting is terrible as well. So do Officers basically just use computers with spell check for writing reports these days? Any extra advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
